Inspiring firsts - How our journey began

Firsts.  A lot can be said about firsts.  Being the first at something.  Or getting the first thing.  Being the first to finish.  First prize.  It's an accomplishment to be sure. Well, here is the second blog post at Bendee Inc.  What should it be about?  How about firsts?  I think someone once said that all journeys start with the first step.  So here we go.

There have been a lot of firsts for us.  The first time we sliced some wood.  The first time we attempted a bend.  The first time we lit up a piece.  I have to be honest the first time we did that, it was truly inspiring and a great motivation to keep moving forward.  I still get very excited when we turn the shop lights off and turn the light on a new piece for the first time.  It shows us if our hard work has paid off.  

There is also the first tool we bought, it was a drum sander. We didn't have great dust collection at the time so there was constant stoppages to empty a sad little shop vac.  It was also the first time we used a garage and since I live in Canada it did get a bit cold on some days.  I think we are in good company.  Didn’t Apple and Amazon start off in garages?

While we are far from the first to combine light and wood nor even the first to bend wood I believe we have a unique eye of adding a bit of light to the world.  We like to think that we are doing something unique, something different in both design and through some techniques.
