Our Wood Bending Techniques
Steam Bending: This is the most traditional method of bending wood. We carefully select hardwoods like oak, walnut, or maple, which have the flexibility to bend without breaking. The wood is exposed to steam, making it pliable. Then, it's expertly shaped around forms and held in place until it dries and retains its new shape.
Laminating: For complex curves or very thin wood, we use lamination. This involves gluing thin layers of wood together and then bending them. Laminating allows us to achieve tighter curves and create intricate designs.
Kerf Cutting: Kerf cutting involves making a series of small cuts on the back of the wood. This allows the wood to bend more easily. We often use kerf cutting to create gentle curves or to modify existing pieces of wood.
